This Duck flew too close to the fire, and got Burned. Ria heads home.

Ria's story I knew was always going to be a slower one to start off with, which I wasn't too concerned about since the Ducks lasted so long as a pair, and Sagittaria had her stories going on in the Past Tribe. Not only did it help establish her as someone who stayed out of the action, but also let the earlier flameouts of her tribe have the spotlight. Eventually when her story with Ernest and Sagittaria started after the swap I was able to have her take a supporting position in the alliances, having to deal with two Alpha Personalities while staying behind. As the season progressed she slowly became a more vocal supporter on Ernests side, and had the potential to save him if she was in the right state of mind at the time.

Part of the reason Ernest left when he did was because him leaving allowed Ria to take the lead in her own story, and in the final few episodes she rose from being the supporter, to the second in command, to the head of the alliance and making several risky moves she never would have made early in the game. Going to rocks, holding on an advantage while going to rocks, and trying to blindside the biggest player in the game. The move this time didn't work out for her this time, but not all big moves do, and even though she had a big loss... It wasn't enough to break her spirits like it did earlier in the game. She may not be someone who's fully recovered from what she's been through, but she's certainly gotten some of her strength back during her time here.

I'm very happy with how Ria's story played out, even if some people say it might have been a little too slow, or took too long to get started, I feel her development and arc was handled well. So I have no regrets, and I'm glad she was a part of this season.

Good way for Ria to go out. I hope she can continue to recover going forward. That's all I'll say.

Ria has been waiting a good eleven Tribal Councils for this moment.

Now let's just hope Frysk will finally be out after his twelfth.

And so it goes. Ria was not a favorite of mine, as I felt that her arc was to crammed into the very end despite her lasting so long, with her spending the majority of the time reminding us of the fact she had ptsd. Plus a character being completely defined by their trauma is not something I’m a fan of. I can get why people would like her, and there’s no problem with that, but she didn’t do it for me.

I like Ria as a concept but the execution felt a little botched up, the change just sorta....happened. Might feel different if I reread it though.

Sad to see her go, but it was the right time.

Bye Ria, one of my favorites of the season. I really loved her story arc.

Now the endgame is approaching, and this time around I'm very optimistic that I will like the contestant that wins.

Oh yeah, Shin's the ftc loser for sure now.

Ria was fun and pleasant, but I'll agree the change about her past kinda just happened. Her mini breakdown this tribal was fun tho. Kasai still sucks taint tho, he better not be allowed to cheat a win to Shin.

Almost got this right. But got my ducks mixed up. So close...

Am I the only one who liked Ria as a character? Sure, she didn't do much in the first episodes, but she and Sagittaria worked really well together, and she was able to stand up for herself and make moves (COUGH UNLIKE FRYSK AND ATLAS COUGH).
Also, I'm 80% sure Sagittaria wins now.

Reply SkySurfer, October 2nd, 2019, 4:23 pm

Well the last duo of the season is no more and at least Ria handled it like a pro. What I liked about her the most was her empathy while actually dealing with her own trauma. Ria wasn't that bad at challenges either but it's easy to say that she enriched the season with her character and not making big strategic moves.

Well, Frysk must be sick of losing the people he intended to protect and Sagittaria's motivation led to another dead end. She needs immunity or idol so badly right now...

Coward the Duck Ria had an interesting transformation out here. It’s not so much the growth arc she got, but rather her “growing” backward into the person she once was, and as a result becoming a bit more cutthroat in her last days, no doubt thanks to Sagi. It was a nice touch on the Past and Future dynamic on this season.

Yeah, I know. I’m super late on this. Chalk it up to kinda running out of things to say.
