Well that certainly... was a challenge.

Also sorry for the late upload. Finally got home from a trip.

That was an incredibly exciting challenge. So much to say. First off, I love that it was based off the Pokemon Ranger games; wasn’t sure if those would make any sort of appearance, but I’m glad they did. Next, Josh and Mele being the heroes felt so good to see; Josh because he almost won the challenge entirely on his own to save himself, but Mele for FINALLY doing something and becoming a good character. Mele impressed me. First she basically tells Tony and Kade to go fuck themselves when she refuses to throw the challenge and helps Josh win it, but THEN she finally gets angry and gives Jeannie’s ring back to Slash when Tony and Kade were being dicks. Thank you, Mele…although I do have to question why you didn’t do something like this sooner. Oh well. Better late than never.

Seeing Lester The Unlikely trying to use Parmesan to cheat was hilarious, and seeing Kade FINALLY becoming the villain that I tried to tell everyone he would become was a long-time coming. Also, seeing all those Spinda was incredibly funny, not to mention it really does seem each one had unique spots, which is an INCREDIBLY good bit of detail put in by SWSU. This was the best outcome for this challenge. Josh saves himself and Mele finally steps up to put the two assholes in their place, Koko FINALLY loses so we can see someone from their side go home (regardless if you all love them so much, this couldn’t continue for the sake of fair story elements), and Lele loses so we can see more drama unfold around Jeannie getting her ring back and Lester The Unlikely being a jackass.

Overall, a great challenge, SWSU! Normally I don’t write so much for a simple challenge, but you really have been putting in the work this season (even more so than ever before, in my honest opinion), and since there has been some unfortunate negativity with certain people in the commentating area, I wanted to give you a bit of praise and say that you’re doing marvelously. This is the 17th season and it’s never looked better! Most people probably won’t even bother to think twice about commenting on the challenge itself, but please know that it doesn’t go unappreciated. It’s really fucking awesome and you deserve a pat on the back for all your hard work. Regardless of how people feel about ME personally, just know that I’m a happy, impressed fan and I always feel that your comics are really amazing.

MVP Mele, doing the challenge for the team and giving the ring back to its rightful owner.

Reply DrMarble, April 19th, 2018, 12:07 am

Kade is officially the biggest asshole in this game, thank you for actually being a decent human being Mele.

Lele and Koko are heading to tribal. Koko's boot is just a formality at this point, so that just leaves me wondering who is leaving on Lele. I hope it's Lester and he goes out like a dumbass.

I get it now. This is the season of apathy.

I don’t like it.

Another exciting challenge with an interesting result...I have to say, Kade is not the man I thought he was, but he might be somewhat of a compelling villain. But major props to Mele for handing the ring over. Hopefully now Jeannie will be able to make a full recovery.

And it looks like Koko is finally making a visit to tribal council, which will be interesting to see play out. I will be interested to see what happens on the Lele tribe as well...it seems there are more than a few possible targets emerging.

This earns Mele a ton of respect points in my eyes. Not only did she help Josh, she risked even more trouble in her tribe by giving back the ring that could have granted her own wishes as well. This is a really bittersweet victory for Tony & Kade.

Speaking of Kade... I already imagined him to act like a jerk but it still hurts to see him so heartless. Risking the medical evacuation of someone who saved you on Day 3 is a no go. He really needs to stop spending time with Tony, he's a very bad influence.

Nezumi seems to be the most likely choice for Koko but the Lele boot will be tougher since it means definitely losing someone who is actually cool. Oh well, it's about time another idol is played.

Wow, Mele really shined in this comic. I figured she wasn't as on board with the scummy treatment of Josh as Kade and Tony, and this certainly proved it. Glad she was able to take the ring from them.

Speaking of Kade, what a diiiiiick. He hasn't shown a lot of his personality so far this season until now, and I am not liking what I'm seeing.

Also I'm liking Derek more and more. He can be a douche at times but he's a really great guy at heart. Definitely more complex than I initially thought he was.

...Alright. That was quite the intense confrontation. I'd just like to say, FUCK Kade and FUCK Tony. I was really hoping Kade wouldn't go the despicable villain route, but it seems he might be the big bad of the entire season.

Also, Mele just went up like 10 positions in my ranking.

Reply Sonofhades, April 19th, 2018, 1:20 am

I would really like to thank Josh and Mele for being the absolute MVPs of this immunity challenge. They gave it their all despite some of the most acrimonious sabotage I've ever seen at an immunity.

Kade is starting to annoy me. He's being despicable in ways that're bad even by Survivor standards. Purposefully, openly trying to get a fellow contestant medevaced while simultaneously abusing her powers for your own benefit has to be a whole new low by villain standards. And Tony's coming off increasingly poorly as well. My regard for him was dropping pretty rapidly, but now I have none for him. He's a brutish, petty thug and he'll never have a chance to win this season. Kade at least has a sort of evil charisma and the ability to plan in the long term.

Well, this was certainly an eventual challenge. Also, WHOOHOO! Pokemon Ranger! I beat all three of these games! I love this series~ And the whole thing with the Spindas was cool as well. Very creative challenge SWSU.

As for the actual plot repercussions, Two Pokemon were going home after this challenge. Josh and Mele 2v4ing it made it the turtle and the rat. Nezumi's elimination is all but set in stone at this point, and Lester is gonna be blindsided so hard 4 to 1, and he's never going to even think of using his idol. Meanwhile, Mele just painted a target on her back, particularly for Tony. I've always liked Mele and didn't think she'd be as harsh on this as Kade inevitably was going to be, but I didn't expect her to step in and give the ring back. This doesn't help her place in the tribe, but it was nice to see. Although I expect this to actually lead to Tony's demise, when he tries to get everyone to vote off her instead of Josh, and they're not gonna have it.

Wow. Mele pulled off simultaneous awesome and heartwarming moments twice in a single comic. Impressive.

Reply PatManDX (Guest), April 19th, 2018, 3:38 am

The irony of Kade pulling this stunt right after his confession that he didn't want people to know about his being a (presumably) corrupt prosecutor out of fear of being seen as a monster, is fucking palpable.

The dynamic of Jeannie being treated as an object of power rather than a person (to the point where players begin to ignore her well-being for an abstract advantage, or out of the mere temptation of using her) is pretty damn provocative and I applaud SWSU for making it work as well as it does here.

Can't wait to see where it goes now that Jeannie is not being held for fucking ransom. Mele's definitely going to see some fall-out for this, and I wouldn't be surprised if the members of Lele is going start becoming tempted by Jeannie's ring at some point as well.

Not sure how tony is helping himself by always sabatoging his team until he gets out by his team or out by the rest of the people when they merge and know he has backstabbing syndrome

Reply Blastoise_FTW, April 19th, 2018, 9:08 am

Tony: I want to throw this challenge

Also Tony: lol imma fuck over this other team about to win

Kade is a douche

also, trying to shapeshift into the Spinda would've been genius if they had a dummy Parmesan to fool Jeff into thinking he wasn't disguised, but obviously they didn't have the foresight to do that

Lester and Nezumi are getting voted out, yawn, next episode!

Reply MechanicalMind, April 19th, 2018, 10:31 am

After that display of apathy, yeah it's safe to say that Kade is dead to me now.

Wouldn't there be some drastic consequences for refusing to give back the ring to Jeannie even if you know that she's suffering & you know coming off as an ungrateful prick for not saving back the same genie that saved him from being sick on day 3? It tells me that he only thinks of her as a means to an end, not a solid ally and that is MESSED UP!

As for Mele, she nailed the beatdown on those jackasses for sure. She just goes to show you that if you keep abusing your power, prepare to get it confiscated. Nice!

Reply qazox, April 19th, 2018, 11:08 am

And thus begins Fini's immunity run.

Jeannie I think might go and Nezumi is not as secure as she thinks.

Reply RedBeryl, April 19th, 2018, 12:15 pm

Aw, man. Kade, I was hoping for some signs of moral sympathy, especially since she wanted to help you out earlier before. At least Mele is willing to stick out her neck to help them out, even if Kade and Tony don't appreciate her handing over their ace in the hole.

*Sad Squeak*

Reply MechanicalMind, April 23rd, 2018, 4:37 am

Wait. I think I was mistaken. Looking back at the early days of the original Lele tribe, Kade wasn't saved by Jeannie. He was saved by the medical team, since his sickness wasn't very strong. He didn't owe Jeannie yet. But he sure didn't hesitate to put his partnership with Jeannie at risk. To clarify, Kade wouldn't even try to hide his selfishness by showing us that he would always treat her as nothing but a tool and not a person. Wouldn't he lose Jeannie's support and a lot of others respect by doing this irresponsible move. This is what I'm afraid of!
