And we have our champion of Blood vs Water!

As always, notes will be up soon. This was a blast of a season to make.

I know Doris was a very predictable winner but I am happy she won. Plus Sierra and Vinnie were easy to beat.

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:28 pm

@rac567: Yeah, being up against Junior and Riley would have been trickier, but having them make the end just wouldnt have seemed right

Reply ChronoAlone, August 6th, 2017, 10:04 pm

Despite the obvious ending, this was a fun season. Probably in my top 5 honestly.

Now, onto character rankings.

20: Sierra-A wishy-washy mess of a competitor, what else can I say? She was nice at first, but quickly started to get annoying. She sucked at the game, and at growing a spine. The fact that Thorne has such a dumbass sister kinda makes me feel sorry for her.

19: Bonnie-Eh. Wasn’t as bad as the first two times, but still annoying. At least she left before the merge this time around.

18: Rosella-Whine, whine, whine. That’s all she did. I feel bad that Vinnie has such a crappy daughter.

17: Cassidy-Probably the only character this season I have no strong opinion on. She was there for two episodes, that’s about it. Not much else to say.

16: Clydia-Kinda hard to have an opinion on a character that was pretending to be someone else the whole time they were around. Nothing really to say.

15: Iyzebel-Again, not as bad this time, and I’m very happy she left early. She was alright, I guess.

14: Lake-He may have seen the error of his ways, but he was still unpleasant to watch. No one enjoys watching someone verbally abuse their daughter.

13: Scott-He was kinda cool, I guess. No real opinion. A bit egotistical, but had some fun moments.

12: Eli-He was…ok, I guess? Not as annoying as before, for sure.

11: Doris-Kinda boring, honestly. And easily the most obvious winner I’ve ever seen. Well, I mean, Taro was too, but it was against Dustin, so I didn’t mind.

10: Angelo-A louder and more vulgar version of Damon. That’s really all he was. Eh. At least he had some amusing moments.

9: Thorne-She was more enjoyable here than in SFC14, but she was still kind of an annoyance at times. Her relationship with Sierra was at least cute at times.

8: Brandi-Glad to see her play with a less paranoid playing style. If only this version of Brandi had lasted as long as the other one did.

7: Bradley-He was a fun guy to watch. Very cool and likeable.

6: Bowser-I’m so happy he came back. He’s much more enjoyable without Enter, for sure.

5: Tialayla-I was surprised by how much I liked her this season. Would’ve made a nice winner, in my opinion.

4: Vinnie-Great to see him back as an antagonistic force, even if he was a bit petty at times. Deserved the win more in my opinion.

3: Riley-Thought he would annoy me, but I really liked him. Had a cute dynamic with Tia and his game knowledge was amusing to hear.

2: Damon-God do I love this guy. Respectable, friendly, and a true bro.

1: Bowser Jr.-What a surprise this guy was. He was a really great competitor in my opinion. Smart and sneaky. Awesome character.

Also, I'm gonna have some polls up in a little bit. It's something that'll be fun, I think.

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:29 pm

@ChronoAlone: I think Melanie and Barney at least have her beat in the obviousness factor

Reply rac567 (Guest), August 6th, 2017, 10:04 pm

@SWSU-Master: Why did Brandi vote for Sierra?

Reply Slicer (Guest), August 6th, 2017, 10:08 pm

@rac567: probably to make sure Vinnie got 3rd place and not 2nd

Reply Guest, August 7th, 2017, 3:02 am

@Slicer: A shitty reason.

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:30 pm

@rac567: Exactly what Slicer (Guest) Said.

Reply Haroldisgod (Guest), August 6th, 2017, 10:07 pm

Hey swsu master, when should we expect the next season? A couple of months? Or weeks?

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:30 pm

@Haroldisgod: Definently not weeks. But I will do my best to not have the wait be as long.

Reply rac567 (Guest), August 6th, 2017, 10:08 pm

Vinnie was a good strageist but he burn too many bridges by trying to vote Brandi out of spite, messing with Brad's head, and openly offering the Staggs as food to Were Riley even if he was lying to get him to vote the way he wanted.

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:31 pm

@rac567: Vinnie can play a devious game, but its a game that gets people on his bad side

Reply anime9001, August 6th, 2017, 10:09 pm

Well then, I stand corrected. Sierra actually did beat Vinnie in the end. Still, nice to see Vinnie improve his max ranking at least a little in his final trip out here~

This was a very enjoyable season. A good number of votes felt somewhat predictable throughout the season, but it never stopped being enjoyable the whole way through. Still wish Eli made it further, but..... eh, beggars can't be choosers.

Now let's just hope SFC 17 comes out this year! ....and that I finally submit that character I had been talking about all the way back in SFC 16 before too much longer....

Reply Guest, August 6th, 2017, 10:21 pm

@anime9001: Oooooh. Can you tell us your character or should I wait?

Reply anime9001, August 7th, 2017, 12:25 am

@Guest: It's an Undertale character. That's all I shall say as of yet~

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:31 pm

@anime9001: My goal is to have SFC17 started before 2018. Hopefully

*Ill-Gotten Rogaines*
Brandi already interrogated Vinnie on how he wasn't setting a good example for his daughter, so I don't have to bring that up here. But still, right? You don't simply forget someone offering his opponents to a hungry werewolf, even if he didn't mean it. It's a shame, because I love Vinnie a lot, but after the countless personal attacks on Brandi and Lewis (even though Lewis deserved it), the aforementioned Kopeii moment, and a completely trivial "strategy" from someone who's capable of much better, what we're left with is a colossal disappointment from one of the biggest icons of the series. Sorry.

*Sierra Alone*
Sierra played a bad game, and that's putting it lightly. But to be honest, not all of it was her fault. It was mainly by sheer coincidence that she always ended up in the middle. Sierra is basically what happens when someone who is too nice for a cutthroat game like Survivor tries to play as hard as they can. What really caused her wishywashiness was her desire to please everybody while playing with Thorne's best interests in mind. That's why she always kept flipping- she thought she was keeping everyone cool, but never realized she was doing the exact opposite the entire time. If she didn't have Thorne to look over, maybe she would've fared better.

*Doe I Kissed*
Yes, we all knew her win was obvious, but I hardly think that matters. Doris wasn't a *great* player, but she wasn't bad at all, either. Having good connections does help you, after all. And yeah, her win could be attributed to the better players leaving earlier in the merge, but it's not like that's never happened before. We always make sure to have a handful of people to root for, after all. Plus, looking at whom she's sitting next to, she absolutely deserved this win.

And with that, this awesome season has finally come to a close, and in its place, we get to wait in anticipation in hope that our characters get accepted into next season. So, how long will we have to wait this time?

I've got a (virtual) Benjamin on the preview comic being released in November. Anyone else want to make a wager?

Reply Slicer (Guest), August 6th, 2017, 10:13 pm

The only surprise here is Brandi sticking it to me one last time with that stupid vote.

20th: Bonnie. FUCK YOU BONNIE QUINN. Like, need I explain?

19th: Sierra. Just....ugh. Flip floppy useless MORON

18th: Rosella. Oh my gooooduh SHUT THE FUCK UP

17th: Angelo. Just a useless bargain bin Damon. Also a bit of a douche.

16th: Lake. Oh, Lake. I liked you, at one point. But then it alll went down hill.. Why'd you have to be such an idiot?

15th: Clydia. Who

14th: Brandi. Congrats, Brandi. You went from ''please die'' tier to ''who was this again'' tier.

13th: Thorne. You're just kind of a delusional moron if you ever thought your sis had a chance. Other than that, why are you here again?

12th: Cassidy. Meh, you were decent. I didn't like the way you went out but not your fault.

11th: Eli. Annoying some times, some times cool.

10th: Iyzebel. Best Exit. Ever. You actually got me to like you, Good job.

9th: Scot. Gone before his time. Jr was right, he's cool.

8th: Bradley. I wish he got to play a more cutthroat game like he wanted, but oh well. Basically full blown Dad Stagg al season. which I like more than seargent stagg.

7th: Tia. Ehhh, At least I remember her now.

6th: Bowser Jr. I liked him here a hell of a lot more than in real Mario.

5th: Bowser. GREATEST KING EVER!!! Plz come back as a villain in SFC20

3rd: Doris. The most obvious winner ever, but she was good.

2nd: Vinnie. The GOAT. But not socially. Or physically. I love ya, Vinnie.

1st: Riley. Good dog! I love the werewolf

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:33 pm

@Blastoise_FTW: You could.... still call Vinnie a goat technically.

Reply Misterjakester (Guest), August 6th, 2017, 10:18 pm

Obvious winner but all and all a very good season. I really hope you do more seasons in different locations cause this worked amazingly.

Ranking time
Damon- Adore
Riley- Adore
Vinnie- Adore
Jr- Adore
Tialayla- Love
Bowser- Love
Doris- Like
Brandi- Like
Brad- Like
Eli- Neutral
Clydia- Neutral
Iyzebel- Neutral
Thorne- Dislike
Cassidy- Dislike
Angelo- Dislike
Scott- Hate
Sierra- Hate
Lake- Loathe
Rosella- Loathe
Bonnie- Loathe

Still peeved there were no cameos from previous Mario fan characters. Seriously, the option was right there and SWSU just ignored it.

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:34 pm

@Misterjakester : I chose to not do it on purpose. Let the season be its own thing.

Reply Misterjakester (Guest), August 6th, 2017, 10:39 pm

@SWSU-Master: understandable. Still would of been cool. Like maybe when Bowser Jr made the bag go flying it could of gone over a scene of Hogan and Matt playing golf or something like that.

Ok, here are the polls I was talking about. These polls are pretty large, just to warn you guys, but I thought these could be fun. These polls will have you voting on your favorite and least favorite SFC characters of all time, because why not? I'll post the results somewhere, possibly on my DA. So yeah, sorry if this seems weird and out of nowhere, but I thought this would be a neat little thing to do.

@ChronoAlone: Sorry to be that guy after you did all this, but seems Frank of 9 and 10 is missing. Noticed since I actually liked the guy enough to want to list him as a favorite, but will leave him an unofficial vote of sorts here. (but thanks for taking the trouble, voted at both)

Reply ChronoAlone, August 7th, 2017, 11:48 am

@Tsurasa: Well, I figured I'd miss someone. Such a long list of characters. I'll see if I can fix that.

Reply Sonofhades, August 6th, 2017, 10:22 pm

Doris was a really predictable winner, but I won't hold that against her too much. This was a very, very high-quality season, possibly among my top five overall. I've had a ton of fun walking through it with you guys, as always. Now on to my best and worst characters of season awards, among other sundry awards I feel like giving out.
Best Character: Bowser Junior. What can I say? He was a bit childish and impulsive, but he proved to have a good amount of strategic acumen and skill at challenges. Certainly a better competitor than his father, and just as good of a character overall. I'd love to see how he fares outside of the Mushroom Kingdom.
Worst Character: Sierra, not that you didn't see that coming. A wishy-washy moron foisted upon us by her far superior sister. She left her mark on this game, and it was by far the largest black mark on this season. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up this season's Scrappy on TV Tropes.
Most Improved: I really wanted to put Vinnie since he made it to third this time around, but I'm actually going to have to give this to Brandi. She finally managed to make some big moves and develop past her paranoia, plus her home life is about to improve a great deal. This is a pretty drastic turnaround, considering how much I hated her last season.
Best Curb-Stomp: No, I'm not talking about Angelo's date with a single mother, I'm talking about Izy's stunning showing in beating up basically half the cast. Even sweeter in retrospect, considering I hold a grudge against Thorne for foisting her dumbass sister on us.
Best Couple: Riley and Tia. I'm awfully fond of Tia, considering she's a sassy action girl. That said, I found myself surprised to be so fond of Riley considering he was never anything resembling a threat. He ended up cute and nuanced enough to win my admiration.
So that's it for this season, folks! I can't wait for more spirited comments during SFC17!

@Sonofhades: Whoa, we're having another Fans vs. Canons?

Reply SWSU-Master, August 6th, 2017, 10:35 pm

@Sonofhades: I will say, I dont think the endgame would have been as interesting without Sierra. She was a needed frustration.

Reply Sonofhades, August 6th, 2017, 10:38 pm

@SWSU-Master: So it goes. I know full well the frustration of having to write a purposefully unlikable character to drive the plot.

Comparison of pre-game predictions to the reality! Predictions from Cast Assessments
Bonnie - Early Merge [Lol didn't even make it that far thankfully]
Sarah - Late Pre-Merge [Technically correct, I guess?]
Bowser - Early Boot [Sad that I called this one, but I called it all the same.]
Bowser Jr. - Goes Deep (?) [Man, I was uncertain if I had to put a question mark there. Still got it right tho.]
Bradley - Mid Pre-Merge (rip if I'm right) [HA! THANKFULLY I WAS VERY WRONG!]
Doris - End Gamer [Spot-on.]
Brandi - REALLY Early Boot [Nope, she was the one to surprise me most from her character growth arc. Really appreciated her impact on this season, and while at the time I felt like her elimination wasn't a satisfactory end to her story, looking back on it, it seems like a proper finish for her. Sometimes the pre-merge is all you need for redemption.]
Lake - Mid-Merge [Just barely missed out on merge, but he had a good character arc all the same. Very controversial character, but I like him all the same.]
Damon - Goes Deep (FTC Goat?) [Lol as if Damon would ever be the goat at FTC. Still, he did go deep like I thought he would.]
Angelo - Goes Deep [Not as deep as I thought.]
Eli - Late Pre-Merge [And bingo was his name-o]
Cassidy - Pre-Merge (?) [Lol question mark strikes again. Got it right tho.]
Iyzebel - Goes Deep (I hope) [I take back me hoping she went far. Her going out when she did was a fine time for her to leave and especially the way she did.]
Scott - Early Merge [Nope, was pretty off on that one.]
Thorne - No clue of placement, but will impact the storyline of the season in a big way [Heck yea she was. Her relationship with Sierra was arguably the most complex one in the season.]
Sierra - Merge [Technically correct, but I didn't think she'd go as deep as she did.]
Tialayla - Goes Deep [Yep!]
Riley - Pre-Merge [Lol thankfully I was wrong here.]
Vinnie - Goes Deep (I hope. I pray. I wish upon a shooting star. I beg on my knees.) [And my prayers were answered.]
Rosella - Merge (If she gains independence, if not then late pre-merge) [Man I gave her more credit than I should've during the pre-game.]

Overall, very lovely season you pieced together here. I think you did manage to make a good returnee season due to having newbies involved as well, ones w/ past relationships too, to bring in more room for development from characters. I think it was a top-tier season even if the winner's arc was more obvious, just cuz it was still a satisfactory end, many characters got developed even further, the amount of rootable players throughout the whole thing was on point, and everything just seemed to be paced very well. Got obvious towards the end, but regardless, I still think this was a very high-end season. Thanks for the story, SWSU.

Reply SWSU-Master, August 7th, 2017, 12:29 am

@Niftyness:Glad you liked it, and you called quite a bit of those placements

Reply Yumichika Time, August 6th, 2017, 11:22 pm

& w/ this season FINALLY coming to an end, the FINAL Winner is indeed Doris Stagg like basically everyone Expected to see here. But even so, she was someone that was VERY enjoyable & likable to have around. Plus, considering that this was a Even# Season, this now proves that S14 not just started to break that Curse, but now S16 Backs-up that Fact too, as this will EASILY be a Top 5 Season overall I believe w/ an Excellent Cast/Location/Challenges/Gameplay even. Course, not everything is perfect, but the Pros Vastly out-weight the Cons for S16 as a Whole. Sierra getting RU (even as a Distant 1) INSTEAD of Vinnie was what REALLY helped make my Night big time, bc despite her flaws, Sierra was never a truly BAD character at heart, just someone that was VERY over-their-head & got lucked-out a LOT to get her RU title. AS for Vinnie himself, While it was a HUGE privilege to finally see this Legend play in person at last (as well as be his BEST showing ever as a Finalist at last), he KINDA ruined himself for me, as he not only played a good Strategic game, but at a GREAT cost of letting a few PERSONAL grudges tank him. Thus, while he's still a respectable player in SFC History, this 3rd version I fell was a LET-DOWN from who he previously was from WAY back in the OS days for S2/AS.

All in all, this was Definitely 1 of your BEST seaosns EVER SWSU, & I really hope that we can get ANY confirmation of when you have the Cast decided for S17 coming RIGHT up. Thanks again, & I look forward to Next season! ^_^

P.S. I said it a few times during this season, & I'll say it 1 more time. I had my Character Submission taken care of Some time ago, But I wanted to help give you a Refresher that my character is basically ready for you to look at Thoroughly to see if they Qualify for you or not. So please let me know ANYTIME about their status (either in private or in public is you choice). ^_^

@Yumichika Time: Excuse me? A let down? Vinnie?

This was by far his BEST GAME out of THREE SEASONS. Even though he didn't win, that was never his goal. His goal was to make it to the end, and he did.

Reply Smasher 101, August 6th, 2017, 11:29 pm

huh, so Sierra finished second after all. genuinely thought it would be Vinnie, but oh well, we all knew who would win. congrats Doris!

and congrats SWSU also on the great season! it's definitely top 5 for me

went back through the season a couple of weeks ago and did rankings episode by episode to give you my final rankings:

20. Rosella (hated) - thought she had potential, but turns out she was both extremely useless and extremely irritating. thankfully she was only filler!
19. Bonnie (hated) - I despise her character but at least she a) was pre-merge like she should have been and b) was tolerable until the Scott boot episode so this version of her doesn't reach my bottom tier gj!
18. Lake (dislike) - I just can't appreciate him. he was VILE in the first two episodes and even until his boot episode he was just kind of annoying. at least he went out on a high note, but...I just can't bring myself to enjoy him
17. Clydia (neutral) - bad actress who played a bad character and was basically created so said bad character could play a third time. Clydia herself doesn't seem so bad though so she can be at the top of the "meh" area
16. Sierra (neutral/mixed) - yes, she got really annoying towards the end, and somewhat in the merge episode, but...imo her moment with Thorne in the Damon boot and a few of her pre-merge moments were really fun? and when she wasn't fun or annoying she was just THERE so...mixed feelings, overall
15. Bradley (neutral) - I thought he was rather dull this time honestly. a good guy but he wasn't that interesting to me. sorry
14. Angelo (neutral/mixed) - another character I'm mixed on. he started out really fun like Damon, though as time went on the worse aspects of his character started to come out and he ended up becoming grating. and then in the last part of his stay I thought he was both fun and ugh in any single episode so here we are
13. Cassidy (neutral) - when she was revealed I thought she had potential to be a little amusing, but could get annoying if she lasted very long and should and likely would be a filler early out. and that's exactly what happened
12. Scott (like) - lol I was admittedly surprised when I realized I liked him. he wasn't amazing or anything but he was sort of fun in his short stay
11. Eli (like) - I can understand why people would be annoyed by him but I think he's fun. that said I'm glad he was more low-key this time because two seasons of him being super over the top would have been much even for me
10. Thorne (like) - I recognize she's basically a shitty person but there were plenty of times where her dryness and other things amused me
9. Iyzebel (like) - I honestly really liked Iyzebel in both of her seasons. I actually found her fun and plus Purada <3 looking back she had several great moments this time too and her exit was excellent. congrats on your marriage with Scott btw!
8. Doris (liked) - her winning was set in stone as soon as Junior left but that doesn't make her bad. she was boring in a few episodes but she still plenty of fun moments. not one of my favorite winners but I'm satisfied with the final result regardless
7. Brandi (loved) - I think she was the only character this season I felt went a little too early. maybe I was wrong but I felt she had a little more potential in her. GREAT redemption arc, regardless
6. Vinnie (loved) - lol I should probably hate him but I don't? I've always found him to be a really entertaining villain and this season was no exception
5. Bowser (favorite) - a quarter of the cast reached the top tier of my rankings and one of them was a pre-merge boot. yep. anyway I honestly wasn't a big fan of Bowser in his first season, probably because of Enter who I absolutely couldn't stand. without him though? he's wonderful. I was fine when he left because he needed to so Junior could get more development but he brought nothing but amazing entertainment in the five episodes he was in
4. Damon (favorite) - YES, DAMON IS A WONDERFUL CHARACTER! HIS WONDERFUL SPIRIT AND SENSE OF HONOR ALWAYS BRINGS GREAT JOY TO MY HEART! *insert other line that sounds vaguely like Damon here*
3. Bowser Jr. (favorite) - again, one of my favorite Mario characters. on Survivor. as soon as he got announced I knew he'd be in my top tier as long as he went far and I was not wrong. he's a brat but he's a hilarious brat
2. and 1. Tialayla and Riley (favorites) - yeah since they're my top two I'll just write for both here. Tialayla is a badass who gave plenty of good quotes and wasn't afraid to stir the pot when she needed to, while Riley is an adorable and fun little weakling with a hilarious dark side. they're easily my two favorites even by themselves but their unlikely yet excellent relationship didn't hurt! I know they were the last pair you cast and I'm extremely glad they made the cut

again great season SWSU, I picked a good one for my second live reading (I read SFC15 while it happened but never commented) and first time to actually comment. I'll be waiting patiently for the next one, and excited for what location awaits us next time! will I end up submitting an applicant for it? no idea whatsoever!

Reply SWSU-Master, August 7th, 2017, 12:31 am

An End to a Great Season Thanks SWSU for a great season from start to finish. I enjoyed reading this season live as always. This was definitely an All-Star season done right.

I'll admit, until Junior was voted out, I did not see a Doris win coming. I thought for sure Junior was the winner. The main reason being was because I figured anybody else winning would make for a poor winner. I still agree with that sentiment - Doris was dull and uninteresting from start to finish, and not once did I ever find myself rooting for her before the Final 3. In fact, I was rooting against her and Bradley for most of the season. She absolutely deserved to win, but so have just about every other SFC winner.

Still, a winner that in my opinion wasn't good doesn't change the fact that this season was very good. Definitely in the top 5. I would argue SFC16 has possibly the best pre-merge in the series thus far. That's an accomplishment.

This was definitely an excellent cast as well, which I felt would turn out very well from the beginning.

Since everybody else has done character rankings, I'll go ahead and post mine:

20) Lake - Hate
19) Rosella - Hate
18) Iyzebel - Dislike
17) Sierra - Dislike/Mixed
16) Doris - Slightly Dislike
15) Bradley - Neutral
14) Clydia - Neutral
13) Bonnie - Neutral (This was Bonnie done RIGHT)
12) Eli - Slightly Like
11) Cassidy - Like
10) Scott - Like
9) Vinnie - Like
8) Tialayla - Love
7) Thorne - Love
6) Angelo - Love
5) Brandi - Love
4) Bowser - Love
3) Damon - Love
2) Riley - Adore
1) Bowser Jr. - Adore

The ratio of likeable characters to unlikeable characters is really telling for a season. Good job. Not often are my opinions this positive for a cast.

Reply SWSU-Master, August 7th, 2017, 9:21 am

@EJ122: Probably did not help Doris and Brads case that for a good chunk of the season. (Around Ep 8-11) They were the antagonists to be dethroned, and voted out. It wasnt until after Brad left that Doris was able to escape that.

Reply Guest, August 7th, 2017, 3:04 am

Brandi's vote for Sierra is so bitter and so random that it makes zero sense.

Just vote for Doris you useless sack of shit. You had a perfect redemption arc, and you ruin it by being a bitter bitch.

Great job Doris, but Vinnie absolutely deserved to tie for second place.

Reply NateInDisney (Guest), August 7th, 2017, 7:36 am

@Guest: Brandi wanted Vinnie to get 3rd so he gets less money, she knew Doris was winning

Reply SWSU-Master, August 7th, 2017, 9:22 am

@Guest: Brandi didn't forget what Vinnie did to her and Lake

Reply Guest, August 7th, 2017, 10:12 am

@SWSU-Master: Except it ruins Brandi's entire redemption arc.

She returned to right her wrongs, and be a better person in general.

Voting to spite Vinnie is something her FATHER would have done. Lake wouldn't have hesitated to ruin Vinnie's game if he could. Brandi was better then that.

Great season! @SWSU-Master:

Here is my character enjoyability list (in no real order within the tier):

Loved: Damon, Riley, Vinnie, Bowser Jr., Thorne (I had her pegged as my winner Ep. 1 > Vinnie in a final 2...only got the Vinnie part right), Brandi

Liked: Eli (I liked original Eli better), Doris, Angelo, Bowser, T, Bradley

Indifferent: Clydia (due to lack of actual background)

Disliked: Cassidy, Izy, Scott, Rosella

Hated: Sierra, Bonnie, Lake

Thanks again for another fun season, SWSU! Looking forward to the next one

Three cheers for Doris! Glad she got this much deserved win, a fitting end to an amazing season! These past few seasons have been such high quality, so happy this series exists. Now for my incredibly long winded character rankings!!!

20. Rosella - Not really much to say on Rosella. She was only there for a few episodes but while she was she was completely unbearable. The tribal where it was between her and Riley was a harrowing experience but I'm glad it ended with her leaving.
19. Cassidy - Gimmick character with a gimmick that I wasn't a big fan of. Always knew she wasn't gonna last, but didn't make the time we had with her any less painful.
18. Clydia - I have little to no opinion of her considering she was never really playing as herself. Just goes to show how much I dislike the first two.
17. Bonnie - Her arc this season was absolutely my favorite of her three attempts, likely due to the fact that she was caught much earlier and at a moment that felt much more satisfying than when she made it to third place twice. However, she is still Bonnie and Bonnie is the devil.
16. Angelo - He had his moments of hilarity but while Damon was fun and boisterous, he was kind of cringey and even mean spirited at times. His elimination was one of my favorite votes and is one of the many examples this season of someone leaving at the precise best time they could leave.
15. Iyzebel - She fulfilled her purpose this season and solidified that, while a capable player if she makes it far, she is not able to control herself enough to win the game. Her ejection episode was massively entertaining, so I'm glad she went out with such a huge bang.
14. Scott - He was an interesting mix of both enjoyable and dickish that we don't see too much of. I initially thought he was making it pretty far, but using him as step one of Bonnie's downfall was a good choice. If he was there without Iyzebel, I think he probably would've been higher on my list.
13. Sierra - Yeahhhhhhh not the biggest fan of dear old Sierra. Granted she wasn't inherently an asshole like some people in this comic are, but she was an archetype that I very much dislike: the player who constantly talks about doing something but never really follows through. I get that sticking with Vinnie as long as she did was good for her game in terms of getting her farther, but her constant "almost flipping" and hypocrisy towards Doris after the Thorne boot really rubbed be wayyyy the wrong way. I'll be the first to admit that I get overly angry at characters while the season is airing even if they are actually not that bad (see Brandi v1), which may be the case with Sierra, but I don't see myself turning around on her in the offseason the way I did with Brandi.
12. Eli - Was excited to see him come back for a second go, but he was ultimately pretty disappointing. His boot episode and the way Vinnie fooled him into ignoring his boot flags was INGENIOUS writing on your part SWSU, so that definitely gives Eli some bonus points in my book. All in all, him being a relatively low key character with an awesome boot episode, after being such a high profile character in SFC11, was almost refreshing in a sense. I'm glad this season wasn't just the Eli Show 2.0.
11. Lake - Ahhh Lewis Lake, you drove me up the wall so many times this season. However, in doing that, you gave us perhaps the most compelling character arc of the season. His relationship with Brandi was absolutely the highlight of the pre merge, and the resolution of their arc together was wholly satisfying. However, the reason he isn't higher even though his characterization was pretty great, was the downright frustrating amount of mistakes he made. He was a definite mixed bag, but the way he ended his run with admitting his mistakes and sacrificing himself for his daughter was enough to put him past all but one of the pre merge characters.
10. Thorne - Thorne was, for the most part, relatively similar to the Thorne of SFC14. She was abrasive and unfeeling in a sometimes endearing and sometimes annoying way. Though, in the end, I found her endearing moments edged out her annoying ones. She also gave us perhaps one of if not the best scenes in the season when she and Sierra went on the reward and she got drunk. As much as I wasn't a Sierra fan, her and Thorne's relationship was another highlight of the season.
9. Bradley - I will always have a soft spot for Bradley because I absolutely adored him in his first season. Besides maybe Diego, he was my favorite from SFC14. This time, he was a little different due to Doris being in the game, and it ended up making him a little less awesome than his first go. Although Dad Stagg was still a great character, I preferred Sgt. Stagg a little more. Glad he was a part of SFC16 tho!
8. Tialayla - I wasn't all that excited when I saw she was coming back, but I was pleasantly surprised at her impact on this season. By far, the best part of T being here was that we were blessed with Riley's presence, but she was still a great character in her own right. This was due to her intense fighting spirit and her blunt way of telling people (mainly Sierra) how it is. She may not be the best at survivor, but her physical prowess and willingness to fight were very endearing qualities.
7. Damon - What is there to say about this lovable lug that hasn't already been said? He's loud but not obnoxious, ferocious but not mean spirited. He is potentially one of the nicest players to every play SFC. He was just more of the same lovable Damon from SFC13. The only negative was that he was a little less enjoyable with Angelo around, but anytime he wasn't with him he was great. Also, him telling off Lake was probably one of the best moments of the pre merge, if not the whole season. Really thought he was gonna end up winning, but I'm glad with what he brought to the season.
6. Doris - If there was one word I could use to describe Doris, it would be..... pleasant. She was pleasant pretty much the entire time she was on screen. I can't really think of a time where I was angry with her, or disliked something she said. She was just really pleasant. Sure, she wasn't the most flashy or exciting winner, but her underdog gameplay (combined with a lack of social gameplay on Sierra and Vinnie's part) netted her a well deserved win. Though I would've loved to see a Vinnie win, Doris winning was just as satisfying and I was immensely happy for her.
5. Bowser - Best. Pre-Merger. Ever. I was sooooo psyched to see Bowser back this season as he and Enter were some of my favorite parts of season 12 (I know, someone who likes Enter, weird huh XD). And maaaan did he not disappoint. His early interactions with Junior were hilarious and his "realization" about Damon and Angelo was even more hilarious. The big loveable Koopa King left at precisely the right time for the season's story, even though at times it felt like he was gone far too soon.
4. Brandi - Her redemption arc was one of the best redemption arcs I've ever seen/read. I had hated her during SFC15, though most of that hate died down when I realized what a great character she actually was. All of that was amplified even further this season, as her ability to read situations in a CORRECT manner was highlighted much more prominently. Her takedown of Bonnie was legendary and I was so happy for her the moment Thorne told her she was right. Her antagonistic interactions with Vinnie and Thorne, as well as her broken but healing relationship with Lake and "buddy cop" relationship with Bradley made her one of the highlights of the first 2/3 of the season.
3. Vinnie - I was extremely excited to see the great Vinnie Reid play live for the first time. He was my favorite SFC character before this season and I gotta say he did not disappoint. His low key early gameplay leading into the explosive eliminations of Eli and Lake was nothing short of electrifying. His open hostility towards Brandi and others was extremely entertaining. His brutal gameplay was just extremely fun to watch. Even though I never thought he had a chance in hell to win, I am so glad he was finally able to get to the end. I'm sorry his daughter was such a disappointment to him in the end, but I'm glad we were able to get another full season of the greatest character in SFC.
2. Bowser Jr. - Junior was probably the most fun character of this whole season. Everything about him was hilarious and intriguing. His early happiness about feeling the experience of winning for the first time was both funny and heartbreaking in a way. His admiration of his father was pretty awesome, but once he left was when Junior's awesomeness came to the forefront. His blindsides of Angelo and Damon were spectacular, even if they were purely for revenge and didn't have the most strategic value. He became a great strategist in his own right and his realization at becoming the final boss of the season was really great, with his final words being some of the more heartwarming final words in the comic's history (at least to me XD). I understand why he couldn't win in the end, but this is about the most perfectly written kid character I've seen.
1. Riley - I'm sure it's obvious from my comments this season that I have nothing but good things to say about Riley. He is the most purely nice character I've ever seen. He isn't an incredibly complex character, which normally is what I like more, but there is just something about him that made me fall completely in love with him. I have a soft spot for both dogs and lovable weakling characters, so Riley was a perfect storm of amazingness right from the get go. His relationship with Tialayla was great and believable, making them my favorite couple of the season. Notice I haven't even begun to talk about Kopeii, which added another layer to Riley's character. His struggle with his dark side made me even more endeared to him, with Kopeii's more comedic moments being the cherry on top. Everything about Riley was perfect, end of story XD.

Wow, 9 of my top 10 were in the actual top 10 of the season. Great boot order haha. I kinda got carried away with the length of these rankings, guess I was really into this season lol.

Can't wait for SFC17! Hope the character I submitted for SFC16 will be able to compete!

Not doing the Obvious listings....

Not the best season, as the winner was obvious too early (really need to have the F5 be one big ball of who can win?); but still one of the more entertaining ones.

I'd still pay $$ to have the Bluth Bros Videogame.. where Damon and Angelo tear-up the Mushroom kingdom...

Reply SWSU-Master, August 7th, 2017, 9:24 am

@qazox: In the Final 5, I felt like there was ENOUGH of a red herring with Riley, Junior and Vinnie, with plausible winning stories.

Reply qazox, August 12th, 2017, 10:43 am

@SWSU-Master: True enough.. but once Doris made F4... it was almost an inevitability that she'd win if she made F3.

Reply SkySurfer, August 7th, 2017, 12:11 pm

Great season with nice implentation of Mario games and items, however the finale was a bit disapointing to me. I don't have a problem with Doris' obvious victory but Sierra simply feels like a terrible 2nd place to me, especially since Vinnie did much more to earn his spot.

Showing villain qualities shouldn't make you automatically lose to one or two overall nicer finalists. I hope this will change in a future season but don't let this criticism discourage you.Just like I said I enjoyed the season as it had more likeable contestants than usual with some exceptions. Will be around for SFC17, that's for sure.

From worst to best: Rosella - Bonnie - Cassidy - Clydia - Iyzebel - Lake - Sierra - Angelo - Scott - Eli - Bradley - Tialayla - Thorne - Doris - Brandi - Bowser - Vinnie - Bowser Jr - Damon - Riley

Reply Tsurasa, August 7th, 2017, 1:37 pm

And here we are. First season I've followed as it was posted, and considering the kind of cliffhangers some of these seasons have had it may have been a good place to start, as this season was at least comparatively less crazy. A bit of a calmer spot after the escalating chaos of the last few seasons, if you will.

Guess I'll do these favorite listings too.

20th - Rosella - Thankfully this wasn't real Survivor. Would weep at anyone losing their spot in favor of her.
19th - Cassidy - Oh boy.
18th - Eli - Nothing against the guy as a personality, but on a meta level he does hurt my enjoyment of the comic with constant analysis of the comic's happenings with a hefty dose of doing unhealthy things to the fourth wall. Would rather go in blind and try to guess what's happening, and he kind of offers too much commentary. Still, was nice to see him fall in a fashion he was happy with.
17th - Bonnie - Vile as ever, but wasn't certainly a bore, even with rehashing her old tricks. Although I think that bit with the sandbag WAS my favorite moment featuring her in the season...
16th - Iyzebel - Needed more of her slow descent into insanity featuring Damon.
15th - Clydia - Could've been interesting to see more of her.
14th - Scott - Can't hate the guy after he made an effort in the game, can't like him since he was just that little bit smarmy enough.
13th - Bowser Jr. - Generally not a fan of kid characters, but he offered a good mixture of outdoing Bowser in the strategy department while his mistakes showed he's most certainly Bowser's son, as well. Shame he had a grudge against my favorite contestants and the brains to carry it out...
12th - Lake - A mixed bag, for sure. Started out as a horrible, horrible, horrible man but the potential and willingness to own up to his screw-ups can't be ignored, either. An abysmal showing from him, but should he ever come back for Round 2, would most likely like him notably more. Pretty much like his daughter.
11th - Doris - Must admit I may understand a bit of Thorne's sentiment from the jury. While I'm guessing she's a perfectly lovely lady outside Survivor, that sugary, smiling face alongside a cutthroat game with seemingly no emotional attachment to anything but her husband is a bit unnerving to watch. That's just me, though, her game plan worked quite well and she was a deserving winner in my books.
10th - Bowser - Oh, Bowser, you lovable oaf. As little as I respect his (conscious) gameplay, he was fun to watch like no other. This season was also good to him in that he was actually quite useful most of the time and seemed to acknowledge his own limits regarding scheming. He may not have made the plans, but he was essential to this season.
9th - Tialayla - Think I did like her better while she was fighting every step in her last season, but as a character she certainly got more chances to shine this time round. A well-rounded contestant (pun not intended) for whom a second chance was much needed.
8th - Riley - A wonderfully nice guy with Kopeii's stupidity offering a both tragic and comedic balance. His gameplay was pretty much just following T, so wouldn't have liked it if he'd won, but an immensely likable character.
7th - Vinnie - More of a dick this time round, to a way unnecessary extent, but he made the game exciting, for sure. Especially after taking Jr. under his wing.
6th - Sierra - Should probably dislike her more, as she's just about the worst type of person one could have the misfortune of playing Survivor with and pretty much contributed to the downfall of my every favorite, but can't really hate her. Just can't see any malice in her actions, mostly a nice (and unassertive) person lacking any kind of understanding for Survivor's nature. Frustrating, for sure, but can't not sympathize nevertheless.
5th - Thorne - By the time her last season ended, I considered Thorne a good character I regardless could not really get behind due to... well, her mentality that would probably result from prison and was therefore understandable but hard to accept. That drunken confession pretty much was the little push of humanization I needed. Thorne's cool. Their division of labor with Sierra didn't work out quite as well as the Staggs', though...
4th - Bradley - And here's a second character given an entirely new dimension by this season. Everything I loved about the guy was still here, but just the presence of Doris was enough to make him stop going overboard and made him probably the biggest threat in the game. A great run from the Staggs.
3rd - Brandi - Speaking of great runs... probably not the only one who wasn't exactly enamored with Brandi in her last season, but there's a precious few better things than a good redemption arc, and a good redemption arc we got. Taking down Bonnie was just the icing on the cake for a new Brandi who seemed much more a servant of justice this time around. Redeemed, so very much, and the arc with Lake was likewise wonderful.
2nd - Angelo - The Muscle Bros share many factors I enjoy, especially the combination of exploding with over-the-top behavior yet being relatively nice human beings considerate of the well-being of their surroundings, but concerning Angelo, specifically, liked his tactical acumen. Making plans at the right moment, covering them up and keeping himself open to options, he would've been my favorite winner of the season.
1st - Damon - A ball of good attitude, belief in one's fellow human being and SPIRIT OF MAN. His speech to Lake was probably the best moment of the season and his friendship with Riley wonderful. One of my all-time favorite contestants, for sure.

3-Bowser Jr
18-Clydia ((Well idek her so-))

Wow I'm Late Holy crap, I had completely forgotten about this thing...and it was normally one of my favorite daily comics. Not sure how that happened.

Dang, this was an enjoyable season. From the cool setting of the Mario Bros Universe, to the return of classic characters tied to new ones, to all the different plays and strategies, it was overall very enjoyable. As someone who has been a Vinnie fan for quite some time, I'm glad the old man finally was able to make it all the way here. Congrats to Doris, and let's hope the next season is just as good if not better (and hopefully I'll actually stick with it this time. Seriously, how did I forget about this!?).

@ChronoAlone: Yes, they most definitely have. SWSU sent a note to me specifically, asking if he could use Artemis for a Second Chances. I told him to go jump off a cliff, because clearly he'd make her leave first, and then he told me that on second thought, Second Chances might not be a good idea without a fan vote. So who knows?

And yes, I'm just making shit up because I'm bored. I miss you crazy little dorks.

Reply Tailslover13, October 12th, 2017, 9:56 pm

My precious 17-year-old cat finally passed away, leaving me wanting to die, too. The possibility of being kicked out of my home thanks to my evil uncle...having to carry heavy computer desks in and out of my home...perhaps losing my SSI so I don't get money goes on. It's been awful.

@Tailslover13: Heh. Thanks.

Reply Tailslover13, October 13th, 2017, 8:08 pm

@ChronoAlone: So...what do you THINK SWSU is going to do for next season? Last season was almost a half All-Stars, so no returning players, likely. Probably no Fans Vs. Canons 3, either; maybe in SFC18, since he seems to do them in even seasons, but not now. So likely an entire cast of newbies again...either with 18 or 20 players, I would guess...not sure what else. What do you think?

Reply ChronoAlone, October 13th, 2017, 10:37 pm

@Tailslover13: I'm going to assume it's a regular season, and if there was going to be another Fans vs. Canons season, it'll probably be sometime after we hit SFC20.

As for the number of contestants, I'd like to think 20 (totally not because it raises the chances of my character being in if the cast hasn't been selected already), but it could be smaller.

Reply Tailslover13, October 13th, 2017, 11:51 pm

@ChronoAlone: That's possible. Seasons with 20 characters are definitely a lot more fun, if you ask me, rather than those with less characters. I mean, it basically means 1 more SWSU character and 1 more applicant, and who doesn't enjoy that?

Reply ChronoAlone, October 13th, 2017, 11:55 pm

@Tailslover13: Agreed. A larger cast usually means more dynamics.

Reply Tailslover13, October 13th, 2017, 11:59 pm

@ChronoAlone: Yep. So, I'm hoping for 20 characters, and hopefully a very unique or interesting cast with funny players~

Reply ChronoAlone, October 14th, 2017, 9:35 am

@Tailslover13: Same here. SWSU's been on a roll for the past few seasons, so this should be good.

Reply Tailslover13, October 14th, 2017, 11:21 am

@ChronoAlone: Agreed. Really, the casts from SFC13 onward have been really good. Regardless of how you FEEL about the seasons themselves, the casts of SFC13, SFC14, SFC15, and SFC16 have been very good, colorful, and fun.

Reply ChronoAlone, October 14th, 2017, 11:27 am

@Tailslover13: Absolutely. They've given us some of the best characters in the series. Damon specifically. Damon is life.

Reply Tailslover13, October 14th, 2017, 11:31 am

@ChronoAlone: Well, according to Suzami (one of the comments posted above yours), Damon is the worst character ever. Very depressing, I know. But, yes, each season has produced some colorful, likable, or enjoyable characters.

Reply ChronoAlone, October 14th, 2017, 11:36 am

@Tailslover13: Yep. And I can't wait to see what next season gives us.

Reply Tailslover13, October 14th, 2017, 11:43 am

@ChronoAlone: Well, odd-numbered seasons are supposed to be SWSU's "best", right? SFC1, SFC3, SFC5, SFC7, SFC9, SFC11, SFC13, SFC15...even though I disagree that SFC7 and SFC11 are good, people tend to like those seasons. So, SFC17 is sure to be a good one!

Reply ChronoAlone, October 14th, 2017, 11:47 am

@Tailslover13: I'll admit, I don't hate SFC7 like most people do, even though Corsona was insufferable besides Wrecker, Vent, and Quadratic.

But yes, SFC17 will be fun. And if the SFC16 notes are any indication, we might be seeing it take place in another game location. Any ideas what it could be?

Reply Tailslover13, October 14th, 2017, 12:02 pm

@ChronoAlone: Well...IF it's in another will probably be a video game location. I don't see him doing something like the Harry Potter world, or Lord Of The Rings world, or anything movie-based. Video games or animated shows seem to be more his style, which I would be all for. So some off the top of my head would be...

- Equestria (My Little Pony)
- Gaia (Final Fantasy VII)
- Kanto (Pokemon)
- Eagleland (Earthbound)
- 200X (Mega Man)
- Raccoon City (Resident Evil)
- Hyrule (Legend Of Zelda)
- Mobius (Sonic The Hedgehog)
- Phantomile (Klonoa)

So, those are some possibilities that crossed my mind. But they're honestly endless, depending on what SWSU knows and doesn't know...and likes and doesn't like.

@Tailslover13: Yeah, I can come up with a few myself, but we shall see what happens when the season gets here.

@ChronoAlone: You guys are riding the edge of the screen xD

Reply ChronoAlone, October 25th, 2017, 4:06 pm

@Blastoise_FTW: Shall we go past it then?

Reply Tailslover13, October 26th, 2017, 12:25 am

@ChronoAlone: I have a feeling like none of this will be worth it and the screen edge-riding won't be warranted. You know what happens when things gets hyped up too much.

Reply ChronoAlone, October 26th, 2017, 10:15 am

@Tailslover13: Don't worry, this isn't EA. We won't disappoint everyone with loot boxes and microtransactions.

Reply Tailslover13, October 26th, 2017, 6:27 pm

@ChronoAlone: I at least hope some of the people on this site have their characters in, rather than the people on Deviantart...since those people are despicable. And other than a nameless troll or two on here who specifically enjoys bullying ME, the people here are a lot more mature, level-headed, and nice. They deserve it.

@Tailslover13: Well thanks ^^

Just don't jinx anything >.>

Progress is being made and confirmation notes are being sent.

@SWSU-Master: lmao I just checked this randomly and now I'm glad I did, glad to know it's going well!

Reply SWSU-Master, November 9th, 2017, 2:21 pm

I have sent out all of the confirmation notes for this season and have gotten 8 of the 11 back.

You have one week to reply before I just wing it with only what you have said on the app.

Reply GaryHawkinsLandscaper, November 9th, 2017, 3:20 pm

@SWSU-Master: Damn, eleven applicants? This might be the first time we'll have more applicants than SWSU characters, if I'm not mistaken.

Reply SWSU-Master, November 9th, 2017, 3:21 pm

@GaryHawkinsLandscaper: Its happened once before. I just got lucky with the apps this season.

Reply Blastoise_FTW, November 11th, 2017, 5:46 pm

@GaryHawkinsLandscaper: Assuming this is a 20 person season, that's 11 apps and 9 SWSU's. Not TOO big of a majority.

Reply GaryHawkinsLandscaper, November 12th, 2017, 11:25 am

@Blastoise_FTW: It still seems interesting to me. But probably because I'm one of the newer people here.

Reply Blastoise_FTW, November 12th, 2017, 11:47 am

@GaryHawkinsLandscaper: Oh don't get me wrong, it's gonna be an interesting season for sure. Plus if its 18 or 16, 11 is a more sizable majority

Reply Tailslover13, November 9th, 2017, 7:07 pm

@SWSU-Master: confirmation note for me. Spoiler alert to everybody who cares: I likely won't be in this season. A shame, I know, since you all clearly wanted to see me involved.

Hehe, but in all seriousness, 11 applicants sounds fun. In SFC7 and SFC8, however, having all applicants didn't do that well, since neither season is considered good. But, having just one number off hopefully won't be too bad! I have faith.

Reply ChronoAlone, November 14th, 2017, 10:04 am

@SWSU-Master: Darn. Didn't get in.

Eh, always next season I suppose.

Reply Blastoise_FTW, November 21st, 2017, 5:51 pm

The suspense is killing me, SWSU!

Reply MechanicalMind, March 22nd, 2018, 12:23 pm

The most influential players of the season. If I have to watch this entire season I would say that the six most influential players from the jury to the champion's placement would be:

Thorne < Riley < Bowser Jr. < Vinnie < Sierra < Doris

Would you agree with me?

P.S. : When I say influential, I mean that even the most terrible and most hated characters could be on this list. That is all.

Reply Tailslover13, March 22nd, 2018, 1:15 pm

@MechanicalMind: Yeah, that's fair. Pretty much the entire final 6 WERE the important players. One might make an argument for Bradley, but...well, he kinda played his role. Everyone, they weren't as important at that final six you listed. While I detest Thorne and Sierra, even I'll admit that they were pretty influential players in their own rights.

@Tailslover13: Thank you, again.
