The Badge and Gun have been retired, and Lake ends his Survivor Career.

Okay, I would like to preface this with. I know Lake was an asshole, his relationship with Brandi was borderline abusive especially in the early stages, but he was a REALLY Interesting character to write for. Someone who is so confident in their normal life and successful as well, coming into the game and having every little thing go wrong, and then the personality that works in the job, only gets him into deeper problems. Booting Rosella was probably the right move for Lake, but his followup for that move was horrendous and really damaged his game beyond repair.

Lake is not a bad guy, he is just someone who never really knew they were in the wrong before, and this experience was a humbling one for him. One that he was able to experience with his daughter, and give some new dynamics into her personality as well, as well as highlight a relationship that unlike all of the others was a very rocky one and needed fixing, and while its not completely fixed. Theres some progress being made, and with a complex issue like this. It's a good start.

And thus we get our "SHE VOTED OUT HER MOM!" moment of the season. We all knew this was coming sooner or later, but instead of the daughter voting out her mom, the daughter voted out her dad. And, honestly, this one was more meaningful. Ciera voting for Laura was only to stay in the good graces of her alliance and nothing more, so her vote proved meaningless in the long run. Here, Brandi's vote literally meant everything...although so did Lewis' when you think about it. It's slightly cheesy, but sometimes cheesy is good, and I approve. This is a good way for Lewis to go out, and at least he went out on a high note. It really is funny how this came full-circle. In SFC15, Brandi took out Marie in a surprise vote and literally pissed off the entire fan-base. Here, Brandi takes out her own father without actually meaning to, and everyone rejoices. Funny how just one season can completely change everyone's perspective on a player. As for Lewis himself...this is extremely rare for me to say, but...I appreciated him. Yes, he was a complete douche. Yes, he was a horrible father (and I have a deep loathing for horrible fathers, since I've gone through four of them myself...painfully). Yes, he played the game horribly and pathetically. But...I think all that was intentional. He's a tragic character; someone we're meant to hate, but also sympathize with at the end of his journey. Because...well, he's human. How Lewis acted was basically...human. It wasn't flat-out hateful like Iyzebel or Bonnie. It wasn't arrogant and stuck-up like Scott. He isn't a cold-hearted murderer like Thorne. He's just...a flawed, horrible father figure and Survivor. And this wrapped up his story perfectly, I feel.

@Tailslover13: Wow, only 2 of your Top 10 are out. Not bad at all

Reply Tailslover13, June 2nd, 2017, 11:12 pm

@SWSU-Master: Yep. Only now I get to await the obvious final 2 between Thorne and Angelo, because...

SWSU: "HAHA, EVERYONE WILL LOVE THE THORNE/ANGELO RELATIONSHIP AND DEFINITELY WANT THEM IN THE FINAL 2! SO FUNNY! BEST STORY!"

OR, if I'm REALLY unlucky, Sierra will make the final 3 as well because...

SWSU: "OOH, I LOVE ME SOME SIBLINGS! LIZ/JOJO WERE SUCH A HUGE HIT! LET ME HAVE THORNE AND SIERRA MAKE THE END, TOO! YAY! EVERYONE LOVES SISTERS! AND THEN ANGELO IS THERE BECAUSE HE'S THE MORE IMPROVED DAMON! YAY ME!"

So, yep, just waiting for the most horrendous final 3 or final 2 ever. You won't let me down, I'm sure.

Reply Maladus1 (Guest), June 3rd, 2017, 6:14 am

@Tailslover13: Ummmm I don't think that SWSU would put 2 siblings in the Final 3 again after SFC14, so I think your safe there....

@Tailslover13: "literally pissed off the whole fanbase"

Nah, she was one of the best players last season for getting rid off Marie. Marie was awful.

Reply Tailslover13, June 3rd, 2017, 12:20 am

@Guest: Well, you're in the 1% minority, but you're allowed to speak your mind anyway, so whatever you say.

Reply ChronoAlone, June 2nd, 2017, 10:39 pm

You did the right thing Lake. I feel like I can respect you a little more now. Hopefully this'll be enough to push Brandi further than last season.

Reply SWSU-Master, June 2nd, 2017, 11:09 pm

@ChronoAlone: At the very least she has an emotional victory.

Reply Sonofhades, June 2nd, 2017, 10:42 pm

Goodbye, Lake. I must admit, I earned a little respect for you with your final speech before being voted out. You've got a lot to work on when you get back home. Welp, there goes one of our most prominent negative players. Are Thorne and Angelo about to take this game by storm?

Reply SWSU-Master, June 2nd, 2017, 11:10 pm

@Sonofhades: We shall see!

Reply RedBeryl, June 2nd, 2017, 11:05 pm

I don't have the greatest relationship with my own dad, so it's nice to see Brandi more-or-less patch things up with Lake. So... did Vinnie do a good thing doing all of this in the first place? I dunno. Therapy is weird.

As for the previews...
~Pairs reunite, and alliances fracture! The Muscle Bros and Cat-Dog couple reunite~ That's all I'm interested in.
~Playing with Fire? I'm intrigued. Literal fire, or figurative?
~And Personal Grudges~ Erm... The only ones I can think of is Brandi/Vinnie and Thorne. *Shrug*

As for Lake himself, I still think he's a dick.

Reply SWSU-Master, June 2nd, 2017, 11:11 pm

@RedBeryl: A Redeemable dick though

Reply Misterjakester, June 2nd, 2017, 11:10 pm

Gotta Smackjeeves account. I am no longer a guess :D
Lake was definatly not father of the year material, but looking back it wouldn't be fair to say he was irredeemable. Hopefully after the show he improves himself and his relationship with Brandi
I think it's fair to say that none of the new players are winning this season. Doris and Sierra are too nice/generic, Angelo is too annoying/negative, Riley doesn't really have a winner edit/arc, and Bowser Jr is too UTR and a canon character. Just my opinion though

Reply SWSU-Master, June 2nd, 2017, 11:12 pm

@Misterjakester: I mean Taro won last season, and his edit was very unwinnerish....

Reply Guest, June 3rd, 2017, 2:55 am

@Misterjakester: I don't agree.

Doris has the best chances out of all new players. True, the bar is set low... and maybe Sierra can pull herself out of the dullness... and Bowser Jr's definitely showing signs of improvement, but I doubt a returning player wins.

Brandi has the redemption edit, not the winner's edit. Tialayla... no. Damon... no. Thorne... hell no. Bradley's asking to be blindsided. Same with Vinnie.

Reply Floorman (Guest), June 2nd, 2017, 11:12 pm

This vote made me happy, yet also sad, because I feel real emotion here. I didn't like Lake much, but I understand him. He's not....evil, he's just...flawed. So, while it's sad to see things end like this, it also sets things up for Brandi to win this season. Like I know she's destined to.

Reply SWSU-Master, June 2nd, 2017, 11:13 pm

@Floorman: Oh yeah, this is the point of the season where people really focus on winner edits

Reply Congo, June 2nd, 2017, 11:14 pm

haven't commented in a long time. hello again, sfc comments!

i'm not sad to see lake go, but he got a pretty good send-off here! from overconfidence and overplaying... to this. it sucks to have family relationship problems, and it's even worse to have them on survivor! though i'm glad to see brandi and her dad try to move forward and patch things up. also, brandi stayed, which is great :)

not sure what to expect next episode... the deer couple will probably be a hot target very soon.

Reply Austin0017, June 2nd, 2017, 11:32 pm

F3 Brandi,Doris, and Thorne would be a good final 3 and a very possible one in my opinion. I don't see Bradley outlasting Doris at this point. Same with Sierra and Thorne.

I still love Riley and Tialayla though even though I know there not winning :(

Reply anime9001, June 2nd, 2017, 11:43 pm

And Lake has, finally, left the building.

I have to say, it was laid on a bit thick, but I'm happy to see a happy ending for the two. Lake was able to walk out of this game with his head held high.....after running it into the dirt for 3 weeks straight.

As for the vote in itself, I'm surprised it wasn't even played up as hidden what might happen, with it showing Lake's vote in the booth. Even Vinnie wasn't surprised by the result. Seems he really was fine with things ending there. And.....honestly, Vinnie's revenge plan probably helped Lake's life much more than hurt him in the long run with his relationship with his daughter and everything.

But now.....all of the obvious boots are FINALLY off the table......It is now, finally, time for the merge.....

Reply dat4yc, June 2nd, 2017, 11:46 pm

Lake was a huge character this season and led to one of the more meaningful relationship arcs of this series. Lake was a major douche this whole season especially to Brandi but this final moment was extremely meaningful. It's obvious that despite everything Brandi really does love and respect her father and I hope this revelation helps improve an obviously fractured relationship. Brilliant writing SWSU, this arc was definitely the highlight of the premerge.

Rankings:

Vinnie > Riley > Brandi > Bradley > Bowser Jr. > Doris > Damon > Tialayla > Thorne > Sierra > Angelo

Reply Yumichika Time, June 3rd, 2017, 12:38 am

Hi there everyone. Sorry for the LONG time I've disappeared, but I followed this as usual & waited until the right time for a moment like this to respond to.

Lewis Lake as we know, was a douche. Not just a regular douche we see typically on most versions of Survivor, but also a ENHIGHTENED version too. To the point that he was labeled the Scum of the season who did things that simply went FAR beyond the line of entertainment/intrigue. However thankfully, as the final Day had struck, he eventually realized BF the point of no return (w/ a LOT of BLUNT help mind you), that Lewis had to make 1 last thing happen. Try to start fixing his Broken relationship w/ his Daughter (whom he abused for most of her life mentally). & as the final Minutes/Seconds ticked by (after numerous amounts of poor decisions made that were destroying both him & his Daughter Brandi), he finally managed to do 1 GOOD thing after all these (likely) years; acknowledge her accomplishments. & btt his time came to an end, this was the key moment that both Father/Daughter knew that there was hope for a 2nd chance to be in good graces w/ each other again. So w/ 1 final act of valiance, Lewis Lake sacrificed himself to Protect Brandi Lake, to both Better her chance of Success/Winning in this Game, & his chance of Fatherhood outside this show.

So w/ ALL that said & done, we are finally left w/ 11 players remaining here at 6/5 RTs/LOs (3M-3F/3M-2F). & of the 10 starting pairs, 4 pairs are WHOLE at 8 (Twin Sisters/Married Deer/Dating Furries/Best Friends), 3 pairs are SEVERED as Singles (Scorned Father/Bratty Son/Emotional Daughter), & 3 pairs are WIPED away Cleanly (Dysfunctional Fianc├ęs/Scheming Actresses/Forth-wall Cousins). Therefore, basically ALL the BAD distractions are gone bf the merge, & this will finally get the real Game/War started at last.

Honestly for the 4 pairs intact, those w/ the most potential to last the longest together from most-least are indeed;
Twin Sisters (Thorne/Sierra) -> Dating Furries (Tialayla/Riley) -> Best Friends (Damon/Angelo) -> Married Deer (Bradley/Doris)

Yet those 4 pairs w/ the most Potential to have a member to DO WELL/WIN EVEN are indeed like this here;
Married Deer (Doris over Bradley) -> Twin Sisters (Sierra over Thorne) -> Dating Furries (Tialayla over Riley) -> Best Friends (Toss-up really)

Lastly is the 3 Permanent Singles. So for them, those that have to potential to go Far/MAKE finals are;
Bowser Jr (Bratty Son) -> Brandi (Emotional Daughter) -> Vinnie (Scorned Father)

Asusual, the Singles w/ the BEST chance to WIN overall at FTC are indeed;
Brandi -> Vinnie -> Bowser Jr.

Overall, this Merge w/ these F11 is gonna be both fun/Painful to watch, since there are SO MANY enjoyable people that made it here. But as they say, let the Blood-Shed Begin!

Reply Tailslover13, June 3rd, 2017, 4:27 am

@Yumichika Time: Stop disappearing all the time then!

Yes, this seems like a fairly good summary of how Lewis' time on SFC went. Likely never to play again, either, since I just don't see him playing again without Brandi, so this was his one shot. I think he was a fine character for what he was, and I agree with everything that you said.

Honestly, while Thorne/Sierra seem like the "strongest" pair, I really don't think they are. I would rank them last because I can't see either of them winning. Nobody will ever vote for Thorne; no matter what she says if she makes the end, they're not giving a murdering convict money. They're just not. And Sierra hasn't done jack shit the whole game, and we really don't know how anyone actually FEELS about her, and we already HAD a sibling win before (Liz), so having it happen AGAIN just won't happen.

If I were to rank them in terms most likely to win, I would say the Married Deer would be first, followed by the Dating Furries. Damon and Angelo just don't really have logical winner edits to them and I can't see them making the end (since they're immunity threats) and I can't see them winning over more qualified individuals.

I also don't think Vinnie has any shot to win at this point. This episode makes it pretty clear he no longer gives a shit and he's back to being an asshole to people, so nobody is going to respect him at all. Brandi...yeah, definitely if she makes the end will win. Bowser Jr. could possibly win, depending on where his own story goes, since he's honestly not as big an asshole as Vinnie; he's just a kid, after all. Skyler was a kid, and HE won...and he was pretty villainous, too. It COULD happen.

This is a solid merge. There's only two people I loathe (Angelo, Thorne), one I don't care for (Sierra), and the rest I either really love or really adore. So, I agree that it's a good merge. Probably going to start losing some likable players, though.

Reply lstaff4, June 3rd, 2017, 12:48 am

Wooooooooooooooooooo! That was cathartic!

Aw man, I hated Lake. I'm sure he was good at his role in the story but he really needed a punch in the face to set him straight. I'm glad he got some resemblence of humanity, even if it likely does little to redeem him in my mind.

Vinnie's going back to being his old self, Damon's being great, Riley's... relatively inoffensive, Thorne is boss, Brandi is great, Junior is fantastic, the Staggs are making work and overall the season's starting to gain momentum. Still, I couldn't care less about Tia and Sierra and Angelo is honestly kind of a dick. The merge may cause some shake ups though so that'll be fun.

All in all, a jackass left the game, and I can't be mad about that.

Reply Guest, June 3rd, 2017, 2:57 am

Can someone explain why most of the returning players are considered edgic contenders, and not Doris, Sierra, or Bowser Jr?

None of the returning players in my eyes appear to even be winning the game. Outside of Riley and Angelo, the newbies appear to have the best chances.

Reply Tailslover13, June 3rd, 2017, 3:32 am

@Guest: I don't know who those people are, but I feel they're wrong. Personally, with everyone left in the game at the final 11, I think there's two strong contenders on each side. The two veterans with the best chances I'd say are Brandi and Bradley. The two newbies with the best chances are Doris and Riley.

Vinnie is just playing for revenge at this point; he's not winning anything. Bowser Jr. seems to be playing more the follower to Vinnie, so even if he becomes a solid player at the merge, I can't see that building into a win for him...plus he's a canon, and SWSU doesn't like canons winning. Tialayla doesn't really have a story and is just kinda there. Nobody would ever reward Thorne in the end. Damon and Angelo are just random guys who nobody takes seriously. Sierra has a slight story with her sister, but she's just so dull that I can't see her winning.

So, really, I think Brandi, Bradley, Doris and Riley would be the strongest contenders from each camp (newbies/veterans).

It is kind of sad that Lake is only getting character development and improved his relationship as a result of him getting eliminated.

Reply GaryHawkinsLandscaper, June 3rd, 2017, 3:29 am

Crime Scene Defenestration I'm amazed at how easy it is for me to turn around on characters. Originally, I had Lewis Lake to thank for getting me to like Brandi, and now, I have Brandi to thank for getting me to like... well, not really "like", but *somewhat tolerate* Lewis Lake. Because to be honest, even when he was busy being the worst thing ever, I had a feeling he was hiding some good parent traits. Still doesn't excuse his awful gameplay or, god forbid, a lot of the things he's said, but I'm glad we got at least a few chapters of his positive qualities.

-----

I really hope this vote has put an end to Vinnie Fakeshisage's revenge quest, 'cause it's been going on for far too long now. I get where it's coming from, but does he really have to be this bitter?

*POWER RANKINGS*

This was an excellent conclusion to the Lake/Brandi arc. Lake and Brandi are on the road to repairing their relationship, and Vinnie made his first blunder of the game. Great Tribal Council, almost better than Bonnie's elimination. I'm really enjoying this season!

Reply SkySurfer, June 3rd, 2017, 7:44 am

That's one way to turn a departure into your biggest victory. I didn't like Lake's general selfish personality and how blind he was to the danger around him. At least there were a few moments that prevented me from hating him like the time when he placed himself between the infuriated Iyzebel and Thorne. Even though he needed some motivation from Damon and Vinnie I'm confident he learned his lesson and will appreciate Brandi's efforts this season. A quite peaceable ending for Lake.

I hope Angelo is the next one to go. We're running out of unlikeable characters pretty quickly and with Damon still around he seems to be the most expendable survivor still in the game to me right now.

Reply qazox, June 3rd, 2017, 9:58 am

yeah now that Lake's gone... can Vinnie focus on becoming the SFC Boston Rob he's supposed to be?

Reply Blastoise_FTW (Guest), June 3rd, 2017, 10:18 am

And there goes the pink shirted detective, leaving behind the legacy of the worst social game ever played in SFC. He never made a ''playing your own fake Idol'' level retarded move, but it was the little shit.

I.. started off liking him, because I still had lingering resentment against Brandi for pretty much ruining 15's pre merge with her bullshit, and then i LOVED him for voting Vinnie's awful fucking daughter, but then he started isolating himself whilst bitching about being in the minority, and THEN he told Vinnie right to his face about how much a fuck-up his daughter was.... And then believing that Vinnie was actually on his side..

I don't hate him, but he still had the worst social game ever. Russell beat him out. ORAN beat him out, ffs!! At least he went out on a high note. Don't expect to see him come back unless it's with alL the other dumbasses and morons from SFC.

I'm not sorry to see Lake go, but he wasn't as bad as I thought he was going to be when he was so horrendous at the start. He got more tolerable in his last few episodes and left on a good note, at least. he played an awful game though lmao
